When is the deadline to drop off mail to Campus Mail Services?

US Postal Mail: All outgoing USPS Mail should be at Campus Mail Service no later than 3:00 PM in order for Mail Processing Clerks to have ample time to process your mail and get it out that same day. The sooner your mail is brought to Campus Mail Service, the sooner your mail can be processed and on its way to being delivered to its destination.

UPS Shipments: All outgoing UPS and FedEx shipments must be delivered to Campus Mail Service before 4:00 PM for proper processing by Campus Mail personnel. Packages received at Campus Mail Service after the 4:00 PM "cut-off" time will be sent out the next business day.

How can I find a box number for a department or college?

BOX numbers are listed on our website. You have the option to look at BOX numbers listed alphabetically by department, numerically by BOX number, or by delivery route. See our homepage to find out proper addressing to the University of Alabama.

How can I find a ZIP Code for an address or a city?

The US Postal Service web site allows you to look up this information. Visit their website by clicking here.

Can I receive my personal mail at my UA department address?

No. The University requires all faculty and staff to receive their personal mail at home or permanent address. Occasional correspondence from friends and colleagues is not considered personal mail. The University of Alabama should not be given as your permanent address. When personal mail is addressed to a department box, you will be requested to notify your correspondents of your permanent mailing address.

Can I send my personal mail through Campus Mail Service and bill it to my department?

As a courtesy to University faculty and staff, Campus Mail Service will pick-up any stamped personal mail from departments along with other mail that is picked up at a regular pick-up location. Personal Mail must be sealed and have the correct postage affixed. All stamped mail should be kept separate from all other mail. Personal mail cannot be billed to a departmental account; no exceptions. Mail that appears to be personal will be held at Campus Mail Service and the appropriate department head will be notified for clarification.

I am changing departments on campus and need to have my mail forwarded to my new location. How can I have my mail forwarded?

A change of your campus location must be acted upon promptly. It is solely up to you and your department to make arrangements on receiving mail that is still addressed to your old location. Campus Mail Service will not redirect mail that has a incorrect BOX number. It is your responsibility to make sure the people who send you mail have your correct campus address.

How can I track a UPS or a FedEx shipment?

You can track your important UPS, FedEx, and Express Mail shipments right from our website. Just click on the "Online Tracking" link from our homepage to find out the delivery status of your package.

How can my department qualify for Bulk Rate/Non-Profit Mailing Discounts?

Bulk Rate/Non-Profit: A minimum of 200 pieces or 50 total pounds is required to qualify for this permit rate. All pieces must be uniform in size and weigh less than 16 ounces and be at least .007" thick. Contact the Bulk Mail Unit at University Printing for more information.

How can I stop Unwanted Ad Mail from coming to my office?

To stop individual advertisements or to stop advertisements to a person no longer employed by your department, you may contact:

DIRECT MARKETING ASSOCIATION
PO BOX 9008
FARMINGDALE NY 11735-9008

and request that their members remove your name from their mailing lists.

Because not all mailers are members of this organization, your request will not stop all of your advertising mail; however, it will stop some.

Please be aware that this is a "blanket" removal. You do not have control over which mail items will be stopped and which will not.

**Campus Mail Service is in the process of creating an "Unwanted Mail Removal Kit" to aid in the effort of stopping unwanted ad mail. Check the 'Announcements' section of our website to see when the kit becomes available.

My Mail is being returned to sender endorsed as Attempted Unknown or Insufficient Address. Why?

You must use your correct mailing address to receive USPS Mail. USPS Mail received by Campus Mail Service with a vague or incorrect address could result in a delay of your mail or have your mail considered "Undeliverable-As-Addressed" and returned to the sender for proper addressing. It is very important to notify people who send you mail of your correct address. Campus Mail Service delivers by assigned BOX numbers; not by building and room number. See the correct address format for incoming USPS Mail by visiting the 'United States Postal Service' section of our website.
