Campus Mail Service

Federal Express (FedEx)

An exclusive contract for outbound shipping services has been awarded to UPS. This contract is a result of a competitive bid process.

As a result, all campus departments are now required to ship outgoing packages exclusively with UPS until further notice.

Campus departments may ship items via FedEx if the shipping charges are billed to the recipient or a third-party FedEx account. Contact Campus Mail Service for more information.

Campus Mail Service uses Pitney Bowes SendSuite Live to process outbound shipments for University departments.  This brings the advantage of a corporate mail center right to your desktop.

University faculty/staff that ship outbound UPS shipments through Campus Mail Service are required to create a user profile on our SendSuite Live application.

(Your myBama credentials are required.  You will be redirected to an instructions page.)

Once a user profile has been created, departmental personnel create an electronic ShipRequest for each package they ship.  Contact a member of the mail center staff if you need assistance setting-up your user profile.

Creating an electronic ShipRequest greatly reduces processing errors and surcharges.  We have also implemented an address verification tool to help avoid any unnecessary fees related to incorrect address information.

How to Prepare Outgoing FedEx Shipments

All FedEx shipments sent through Campus Mail Service should already be properly packaged according to FedEx specifications. Campus Mail Service has a supply of FedEx-branded letter envelopes available for sending letters/documents and can help you properly package your shipment.
Your outgoing FedEx shipments can be picked up by Campus Mail Service along with your regular outgoing mail. Shipments should be kept separate from all other mail and be accompanied by a ShipRequest Form generated from our SendSuite Live application or be accompanied by a completed FedEx Airbill.

Using a FedEx Airbill

NOTE: Departments are responsible for adequately packaging their goods and properly filling-out the FedEx airbill. If a shipper omits the number of packages and/or weight per package, FedEx billing will be based on their best estimate of the number of packages they receive and/or an estimated "default" weight per package as determined by FedEx. Customers should also select the service they would like. A failure to do so could result in the shipment being processed as Priority Overnight.
REMINDER: Campus Mail Service only handles outgoing FedEx shipments where shipping charges are billed to a recipient or third-party FedEx account.

Hazardous Materials
Campus Mail Service does not handle any Hazardous Materials or Infectious Substances. This includes inbound shipments as well as outbound shipments.  All outbound shipments, including any pre-paid returns, that are considered or defined as hazardous, infectious or dangerous should be directed through the Department of Environmental Health and Safety.

Please contact the Department of Environmental Health and Safety at the University of Alabama for assistance, (205) 348-5905. Click here to view the Hazardous Materials/Dangerous Goods Shipping Guidelines and Instruction.

FedEx ships to street addresses only.

FedEx cannot deliver to a Post Office Box address.
