Sending Packages
We have upgraded our outgoing shipping software from S.M.A.R.T to PitneyShip, effective March 3rd, 2025. All packages must include a ship request from PitneyShip before it will be shipped out.
In order to gain access to PitneyShip, everyone is required to have a 1-hour training beforehand to learn the system and how to request a shipment. Below is a link to the bookings page with all of the trainings we are offering currently.

Sending Mail
- All outgoing University mail must be accompanied with a charge slip (either domestic or international).
- Outgoing mail may be given to the Campus Mail carrier during regular mail collection or placed, with the attached charge slip, in a CAPS box for collection.
- As a courtesy to University faculty and staff, pre-stamped personal mail may be included with outgoing mail or placed in CAPS boxes. Personal mail must be sealed, have the correct postage affixed, and should not be bundled together with departmental mail. Under no circumstance may personal mail be billed to a departmental account.
- Departments are not authorized to use stamps or purchase their own meter to process University mail.
InfoOutbound items that are brought to Campus Mail after 3:00pm will NOT be entered into the mail or package stream until the following business day.

Mailing Letter Mail vs Shipments
All outgoing items that do not qualify as letter mail or those you want to have tracking service for must be initiated through the outgoing shipping software. Letter mail and Flats (large, flat envelopes) can continue to be sent with UA Charge Slips.

Receiving Packages
- USPS: USPS does not deliver to on-campus addresses. All packages addressed to a University address is sent to Campus Mail Service for delivery. Campus Mail delivers based on the box number (870 _ _ _). Any package that is addressed without a box number or to a box number that is not valid is returned to the sender. USPS packages are generally received at the Campus Mail facility around 3pm each business day. Packages are sorted, processed, and delivered to the mail delivery routes the following business day.
- UPS & FedEx: UPS and FedEx will deliver directly to your department’s street address. Sometimes, USPS will make the final leg of the delivery for packages that began their shipping journey with UPS or FedEx. Due to this we highly, recommend putting your Box # on all packages to avoid your item being delayed or returned to the sender.
Receiving Mail
- All departments with a registered mail stop (mailbox) are eligible to receive business mail on campus. Departments without a registered mailstop will have to rent a post office box off-campus to receive mail through the USPS and will not be eligible to receive intra-campus mail deliveries.
- USPS: The United States Postal Service (USPS) does not deliver to on-campus addresses. All mail addressed to a University address is sent to Campus Mail Service for delivery.
