S.M.A.R.T – New Departmental Shipping Program

Campus Mail Service is proud to bring you a new tool for sending out departmental packages. Effective April 1, 2023, the existing Enterprise Shipping Solution (ESS) system will be replaced by S.M.A.R.T.

Currently, departments are either using ESS or attaching UA Charge Slips when shipping outgoing packages. All departments that send packages will need to transition to preparing their packages in S.M.A.R.T. Letter mail and Flats (large, flat envelopes) can continue to be sent with UA Charge Slips.

S.M.A.R.T. is a best-in-class powerhouse shipping application for processing packages using USPS, UPS, and FedEx. Departmental users can easily shop shipping options to identify the lowest cost or fastest delivery method, saving time and money. S.M.A.R.T. offers commercial base pricing discounts, address corrections, free insurance on Priority Mail and Priority Mail Express, and more. USPS shipments processed through S.M.A.R.T. yield savings of 15-42% compared to retail rates.  With this transition, Campus Mail will begin charging a nominal handling fee of 10% on all outgoing domestic shipments and $5 on all international shipments.

Once in use,  S.M.A.R.T. users will either select from verified, pre-loaded FOAPs or will be assigned a single FOAP for all shipments. This should reduce billing errors and make shipping simpler for all employees. Please use this link to request FOAPs in your area be added to S.M.A.R.T. If a FOAP is not added through this link, departmental users will not be able to select it for shipment. You may add as many FOAPs as needed.

All users are required to be trained on the S.M.A.R.T. system before their S.M.A.R.T. account will be established. Four training sessions will be offered. Two trainings will be held via TEAMS and two training will be held at the Bryant Conference Center.  Only one session is required per user. Training sessions will be held on the following days:

  • Friday, February 17, 9:00 – 10:00 am, in person at the Bryant Conference Center
  • Thursday, February 23, 1:00 – 2:00  pm, via TEAMS
  • Thursday, March 23, 9:00 am – 10:00 am, via TEAMS
  • Friday, March 24, 1:30 pm – 2:30 pm, in person at the Bryant Conference Center

The S.M.A.R.T. system will go live on March 1 for trained users, and the outgoing ESS system and the use of UA Charge Slips for outgoing packages will cease on March 31. Please have employees that need access to S.MA.R.T. use this LINK to sign up for training.

We truly hope this powerful program brings value to your department by making shipping more intuitive while providing direct cost savings opportunities.
